December 21, 2009 Neighbor Tim & Wife Joann & Captain Tom Catch Red Fever on Lake Calcasieu!!! Tim had never caught a redfish before and after a few bronze beauties he was so fired up he wanted to stay all day! Before long he was casting and catching 2 to 5 pound reds on his own with pearl gulp swimming mullet on a 1/4 oz jig. I thought he might wear out after he caught 20 but I asked him when he was ready to leave? He replied NEVER. What a joy to be young!!!!

December 20, 2009 Ed S. & Eddie Catch a Lake Calcasieu Red Limit & More!!! It was a bit windy and a bit chilley(38*) but the Big Lake bronze beauties were still hungry. We had a limit in about an hour on Pearl White Gulp Swimming Mullet and then caught and released another 15 in the 2 to 5 pound range before trying for Big winter trout with Corkies. The trout have been very slow to bite with lots of stained fresh water and Lake Calcasieu water temps between 48 and 52. And after a few hours of trying we headed to the house with memories of a great Big Lake RedFish outing!!!

December 18,2009 Casey K. & Associates Cath a Big Lake Limit of Reds!!! It was a little more work today than it has been to catch 20 good reds, but these guys were patient and it paid off with a few doubles and some nice 2 to 5 pound golden beauties. Lake Calcasieu Looks like a big bowl of chocolate milk. Lots of wind and rain have Big Lake in very poor condition. I have not caught a trout in almost two weeks. The lake temps are from 48* to 52* and a few Lake Calcasieu Monster Trout ( over 7#) have been caught by waders. But fortunatley for this Lake Calcasieu Guide the Redfish are still catchable with a little work . Berkley Gulp was all they would touch today, and you had to work it very slow. The season is about over and I am preparing for The Houston Boat Show at Reliant Center Jan 8 to 15, Booth # 604.

December 16, 2009 Charles D. & Friend Bob Wear em Out (Their Arms and The Reds!!!) We finished one of the most exciting days with a Limit of Reds in about 30 minutes and caught them almost every cast untill at 11:00 AM the guys said uncle and that 87 Reds 3 to 7 pounds was enough. The trip to the honey was a challange with 25 to 30 MPH winds and 2 foot waves we were wet and cold when we arrived at our spot. These guys thought I was crazy for not rescheduling in such conditions, but I knew (HOPED?)the fish would be where I left them. After 3 tries to get anchored we finally got down to business. In less than 30 minutes we had 15 of Lake Calcasieu’s Golden Beauties in the boat. We put anything over 4 pounds in the cooler and smaller ones in the livewell and for the next three hours it was Big Lake Heaven. Pearl White Berkley Gulp Swimming Mullet was our bait of choice! It just doesn’t get any better in the life a a Lake Calcasieu fishing guide!!!!

December 13, 2009 Reds, Reds , and more Reds for Captain Tom and Captain Steve!!! A limit today at 8:30 AM!! And we caught and released another 23 before we decided this was too much like shooting fish in a barrel and headed out to throw topwaters for Big Trout. At our first stop a Big Lake Calcasieu Speck took My Super Spook but quickley shook it loose much to my dismay! But I have her address and I will return to try again soon. The winter Redfish bite should stay good untill we get some really cold or rainy weather. Most were caught on Berkley Gulp Pearl Swimming Mullet on a 1/4 oz jig , with a few on V M Minnows white & Chartruse.
