October 09, 2013 It Was Picture Day on Lake Calcasieu For Jeff & Ken !! It wasn’t so much how many today as how pretty they were for these two sportswriters here in Lake Charles for the Sportswriter’s Convention. It was a fun day with great weather for great Pics!!!Comment : It was a crisp and cool morning as fellow writer Ken Perrotte and I met at the Lake Calcesieu Point boat landing. Charter Captain Tom Adams instructed us to bring a jacket since the pre-daylight boat ride down the bayou to the fishing grounds would last a full 40-minutes! Hunkered down and staying strong mentally was rewarded by a beautiful sunrise in a remote locale that was teeming with hungry fish. We were targeting an inshore slam for redfish, trout and flounder when that all important SURPRISE factor that we all love about saltwater fishing kicked in. My next cast of a live shrimp rigged under a popping cork was placed in shallow water right next to the marsh and it went under the water with authority. A deep bend in my rod and a nice fight ensued, reaching the conclusion that I had a large sheepsehead on the way to the boat. This was it – a Sheepshead Slam! I of course coined this phrase back in 2009 as catching a trout, redfish and a sheepshead from the same exact spot. This is rare to happen, and worthy of noting. Captain Tom chimed in with an old fisherman’s saying “Where there’s  ‘Heads there’s Reds” – and that is so true.
